he first Gamelon CD offers up a highly melodic, yet heavy dose of fusion, the musicianship and recording are quite good, given the era of this recording, I am not surprised the band never really found a larger audience, it certainly isn't because of the quality of the music. They fit into a strange place in that they are a guitar based band that has some progressive leanings, consider them a mix of Joe Satriani meets Jean-Luc Ponty, meets Brand X, so that fact really made them a hard band to target in 1987, the cover art may have led some to believe they were a new age band, and also another band with a similar name were playing traditional jazz which could have also misled some. Yet here in 2001 we can salvage these lost bands from obscurity and give them some new life. Well worth you time and money if you like the following bands: Brand X, Fire Merchants, Jean -Luc Ponty, Steve Vai, Kazumi Watanabe.
