Ohio's Geoffe Hein has released Frozen Ghost, a CD geared to prove the guitarist can rip in any genre. While primarily instrumental heavy metal in style and substance, Hein also touches blues, rock, ballads, surf and jazz at times - a musical meal that can all be ingested in a single sitting. If at times the music sound like it was recorded by a drunken thrasher in his underwear in the wee hours of the morning - great! - because two thirds of Frozen Ghost was recorded that way. Overall, Hein favors extremely fast playing (ala Kirk Hammett), with over-the-top shredding, crunchy rhythms and ripping, improvised solos.
