Review of "Flesh On Flesh"

By: Dave Dorkin
l Di Meola's latest release is a powerful tour de force featuring the many acoustic and electric facets of Di Meola's musical personality. Al covers longtime Di Meola favorite Astor Piazzola's "Fugata" in an exciting blend of tango and Latin styles as well as the Brazilian Egberto Gismonte's delicate "Meninas." Al also returns to a more overt electric fusion style as well as he covers the classic Chick Corea tune "Seior Mouse" which he featured on his own Casino release from the 1970's and even indulges in some guitar work on the Fender Stratocaster. Bassist Anthony Jackson returns after a several year absence and Al is joined by a wind ensemble as well as by keyboard virtuoso Gonzalo Rubalcaba for some exciting exchanges on Di Meola's "Zona Disperata." This will appeal to fans of Al's music from all era's of his career. Highly recommended.
