On "Fingerprints", Larry Carlton offers up a smooth soundtrack for late night listening, joined by a large roster of semi-regular and guest musicians, including Steve Cole and Kirk Whalum on saxophone, Vinnie Colaiutta on drums, Abraham Laboriel on bass, and country picker Vince Gill on guitar. Michael McDonald adds a bluesy vocal to the lone non-instrumental "'Til I Hurt You", while instrumental highlights include "The Storyteller", the title track, and "Gracias", the duet with Gill. No matter what the format, Carlton always manages to make his guitar sing, and his professionalism and mastery of his instrument always shine through.
