Fingerstyle/World
Finger Noise, Weiss' 1999 solo debut CD, is comprised of 13 original songs, half of which feature Weiss' solo acoustic guitar playing, and half featuring a stellar studio band consisting of Weiss on acoustic and electric guitars, Anna Schaad on electric viola, Mike Simmons on drums, Denny Reynolds on bass, and Tom Harbeson on congas. Weiss' classical training and love of Spanish guitar is showcased on "Dreams of Spain," while "Didn't I?" features his improvisational skills on a nylon string guitar against a rhythmic backdrop of bass/drums/percussion. "Imagine a Nation" blends three distinct guitar sounds (nylon string, steel string, and overdriven electric) into a Latino-flavored pop song. On "Cookie Cafe, Revisited" Weiss invites electric violist Anna Schaad to share the lead role, and blends his distorted electric leads with Schaad's effects-leaden lines in such a way as to blur the distinction between electric guitar and electric viola. Instrumental Guitar (Acoustic/Fingerstyle/World), total running time, 41:36 - David Weiss @ iTunes!
