Review of "Feelin' Dunk"
|
ne year ago the Jazz-guitarist Peter Autschbach, who was a student of the
legendary Joe Pass, met Germany's best known and best playing organist
Barbara Dennerlein for the first time. After that he planned to record an
album together with her. The chemistry between the two was right from the
very beginning, and so Peter Autschbach started to write tunes that were
supposed to fit the combination of guitar and Hammond-organ. In these pieces
he reserved a lot of space for interaction and improvisation. A few months
later the preparations were finished and the Autschbach Projekt went into
the studio and, together with Barbara, recorded the whole CD quasi live in
only 10 hours. The result is simply ingenious. While listening I thought I'd
never heard a more harmonious and balanced interaction between Hammond-organ
and guitar. Barbara plays more intensively and with more expression than I
ever heard and this is not at least because, due to the fact that there are
two excellent bassists, she doesn't have to play the bass with her feet. In
addition there is the brilliant guitar work of Peter Autschbach, who is able
to increase the already cooking athmosphere with his clear tone and
virtuostic solo passages full of intensity. The band presents a
Jazz-Blues-Cocktail, which covers a variety of styles from groovy Swing (Mr.
stringer) or rhythmically sophisticated Latin Jazz (All about Cordoba) up to
crispy Funk Rock (Cool), making sure that there is enough to satisfy every
taste. For me "Feelin' Dunk" belongs to the best publications of the year.
