Review of "Electric Woodoo"

By: Wayne Klinger
here's been 3 re-releases by Lion Music concernng Mr. Mattsson and besides this one (known in the original U.S. format as "The Exciter"), "Eternity" and "No Surrender" were released again between '98 and 2001. Lars reminds me of Malmsteen too much since, if you think about it, has to be a heavy influence as Lars came onto the circuit 6 years after Yngwie basically was establishing himself with Alcatrazz, Steeler and Rising Force. Lars was discovered by who else but Mike Varney, head honcho of Shrapnel Records and a well-known entity to guitar music in general. I do like Lars' solo material better without the vocals and the keyboard/synth arrangements make it all the better (sort of like an instrumental Narnia or Nation). The bonus track,"Sacrifice Of Love" is on this newer rendition and all 11 tracks were redone in a newly modified Lion's Den where they were originally recorded and released years earlier. This is a best bet for "Neo-Classical" enthusiasts.
