letter ust when you think you've heard it all before - a phrase that seems to be shared amoungst the community of progressive and fusion junkies. And having been exposed to such a wealth of music through the vast information of the internet, there are times when I actually believe that in fact, I have heard it all. Yet, I am constantly reminded that such statements are blindly shortsighted. And artists and bands from every imaginable part of the planet, constantly crop up and display something either entirely different or refreshingly unique. Electrocution 250 is such collective group of musicians, and while not an altogether new style of music to my ears, the full effects of their music is quite a treat for the listening senses that are tickled by such audible sensations.

There is a bit of a story behind my exposure to this cd, by virtue of discovering the cd called The Alchimists - 27 tracks of guitar wizardry (reviewed here at Proggnosis), I heard a collection of highly advanced music from a variety of extremely talented guitarists and other musicians, yet the music was not conforming to the typical guitar-centric music that has been dished out since the Yngwie cloning experiments began in the 1980's. The label that produced that cd is called Liquid Note Records or LNR for short. I visited the label's sight (www.liquidnoterecords.co.uk), and saw that the small independant label had some other cd activities going on, soon thereafter, I am listening to this cd Electrocution 250 - Electric Cartoon Music From Hell, with no clues as what to expect. Much to my surprise, I was assaulted from the very beginning of the cd to the ending by an onslaught of hypertechnical, obnoxiously humorous, zany, yet very serious instrumental music, quite fitting the apt cd name that is attached to it. I also was surprised to see that guitarist Todd Duane was involved, Todd happens to live in the same area that I do, and I have had the pleasure to hear Todd's outstanding solo music, knowing that he was a great talent, I was confident this cd was going to be something over the top, and it is. Joining Todd are drummer - Peter Wildoer, and keyboardist - Lale Larson. Each are outstanding musicians of the highest order.

The music that has evolved from this confluence of talents is probably something that none of the individual performers had ever imagined themselves doing, but what an interesting concept. What they have done, is taken the concept of creating music that would perfectly fit the backdrop of some of the classic cartoon music from the past. Old, Tom And Jerry, Disney cartoons, and others were always respected as artforms in that the visual art of moving pictures was enhanced through animation, and one factor many may have overlooked were the equally impressive soundtracks that backed these productions. They always packed an extra impact to whatever your eyes were fix on while watching. Well, believe it or not, that is what is happening here, these three highly developed and skillful musicians, recreate those very nuances of cartoons on this cd, but, they amped things up to the max, heavy guitars, powerful drummimg, outlandish keyboard displays are thematically presenting this style of music with a huge kick in the rear.

Each of these musicians are gifted players, and their abilities are pushed to the limits throughout this cd, the music is not just fast in your face shred, but colorful and fun. You will definitly get visions of cat and mouse chases, ladder slides, anvil drops, and other familiar cartoon antics in your mind while hearing this cd, that's is the intention and the beauty of the results of what sounds like a very disciplined recording effort. Overall, while the technical demands of the music are suited to serious musicianship, the end results are nothing but fun, which to my ears, is a great combination for musical enjoyment.
