I`ve always wanted to do a mini-symphony. Well, here it is! I conceived most of this in two nights and proceeded to rearrange it too many times! Rob Stankiewicz played the way cool drum part and I played the other instruments.

This is where my roots are at: classical metal with a weird twist. Again it`s Rob Stankiewicz on drums with David Harbour on bass this time.

I had this G#-E riff stashed away for a while, but when I thought of the simple melody over the top of it, that really kicked it into gear for me. I then added the progressive touches, another great job by Rob Stankiewicz and David Harbour in the rhythm section.

Nothing beats playing a progressive groove like this. One of the tracks that had rare "magic" to it, the rhythm section of David Harbour and Keith Carlock just smoked.

This little "guipriece` was recorded all direct through a Digitech GSP 2101 with volume swells. I added some distant keyboards as well.

The melodies were paramount here as I was just trying to paint pictures, cop "visuals", and put a chill up the old spine. Keith Carlock added a very tasty drum part.

I wrote a twisted little melody in Lydian mode for this one, which was really a demon to record because of all the tight starts and stops. I cranked my studio monitors to earsplitting volume for the middle feedback solo. (A little vintage Rush influence in the midsection-it`s in my blood!) My original demo was more basic, so this song really grew teeth when Rob Stankiewicz added his killer drum track.

I just wanted to have fun on this one, and give everyone a chance to chop a little. I`ve always loved funk, but it was especially fun with this David Harbour/Keith Carlock rhythm section. This is a groove that the "father of psychoanalysis" would have dug.

Well I had to show my real heavy side sooner or later. The melodies in the song actually ended up being a combination of Lydian and Phrygian. I just went for total mental illness in the middle solo. Matt Thompson, the drummer for another band of mine, Surgeon, ripped on the skins.

Probably my favorite composition of the lot. I spent a lot of time orchestrating this little beast, and it was a learning experience. My "all harmonic" short solo break in the middle was something I`ve wanted to try for a while. Clint Barlow added some very nice drum work. The bass lines were courtesy of Mr. Harbour again.
