As if one isn`t enough... (Michael Harrs - Acoustic Guitar, Michael Harrs - Acoustic Guitar, Michael Harrs - Acoustic Guitar)

Thought I would stretch my parameters a bit on this one...I wanted to get very progressive and write with no limitations...dabbled with some atonality on the ending solo...quite a vicious rhythm track by Rob Stankiewicz and Derek Blakley from "Haji`s Kitchen" as well...thanx guys...

This was the rarest of the rare for me...a song I wrote in one day...I got up on 2/8/98, and told myself I was going to write a "progressive Be Bop tune", and by the end of the day, I had a demo of this track...why can`t it always be that easy? The title refers to the battle between styles in this tune...honorable mention to Mike Haid and Adam Nirri for their "nuclear" rhythm track!

My objective here was to compose a melodic progressive song that stood on its own without being too pompous...it turned out to be one of my faves...Erik Martinez and Clint Barlow put a rather thick icing on the musical cake...I dig...

So the key of G major re-entered my life...but only for a while...thought I would steer in a different direction for a bit...this one was quite challenging actually, to keep adding textures until I was finally content with it...and I used a different guitar tone in each verse...also some Lydian to spice it up...thanx, Matt Thompson, for that tribal vibe...

I wrote this gargantuan riff several years ago and it has proceeded to terrify me ever since...I finally had to submit and make it into a song before it stabbed me to death...you can`t mess with the power of Arthurian legend...so why fight it?

The opening riff came to me out of nowhere one evening...as if Wolfgang`s apparition had handed it to me...I then slowly but surely came up with cohesive parts to finish the arrangement and carefully constructed the other guitar lines...I later sequenced a keyboard line along with the middle/ending sections (the ones with "too many notes")...cheers again to Matt Thompson...and Dawn Oyedipe for her vengeful violin...

Definately one of my faves...the opening melodic theme paved the way into many other parts as I attempted to squeeze a lot of melody, color, and aggression into a concise statement...

A little "progressive blues", if you will...a very fulfilling piece to compose and to play live...it always gives me a chill factor 10...hats off to Matt Thompson for not overplaying!

An excerpt from Vivaldi`s "The 4 Seasons"...the lone "cover tune" of the bunch, this is truly one of the most intense classical compositions I`ve ever witnessed in it`s original form...I felt compelled to give it a new voice while accessing the wide range of dynamics within...

I wanted to compose a tune that was very orchestrated and melodically strong...a crying guitar weaving in and out of a symphonic substratum...I was able to execute my idea of using volume swells in the main melody...notable also is the counterpoint in the midsection which overlaps the two previous melodies with guitar, bass, and Jenni Ritter`s cello...some fine work from the James Martin/Clint Barlow rhythm section as well...

My final statement in raw form...a real trio this time...
