Review of "Devices In Popmusic"

By: Wayne Klinger

letter ight off the the bat this guitarist has an impressive resume with music college in Bremen,Germany with completed studies in Classical and Electric guitar along with Jazz conduction. He also has taken master classes with Pepe Romero,Eliot Fisk and Wolfgang Lendle and remains as a teacher today at the Conservatoire in Cloppenburg,Germany. Fritz Knebel, the name behind Artesguitars, is quite the master of compositions on this CD to not only solidify the schooling but test the ears of listeners like myself. Fritz's tastes emerge from the influential background of Uli Jon Roth, Spock's Beard, Allan Holdsworth and Gregg Bissonette.

Dissecting some of the CD we find a mixed bag of genres like the bluesy "Sometimes" to the Kings X-ish "Throwing Hippos" with a little harmonica. "Wamba,Yooba" uses a Classical approach and by now you get the idea! Fritz has a style to his own but if you need any sort of footnote to grab an idea of what to expect, I would say something in the corridors of Vai, Saraceno, Firkins, Mitchell and a little Hoey. his laborings and studies over the years are reflected very well on this release and through the right channels on mp3.com and Guitar 9, I don't see why Fritz wouldn't be successful.
