Hi! My name is Gianluca Piersanti and this is my first column on the site. I started to play guitar when I was 16 years old, and at 18 with my band I used to play covers from guitarist such as Malmsteen, Satriani, MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, etc. I also taught guitar to a huge number of guitarists, won several prizes and contests, including best original arranger with my band Gli Impossibili. Being an A-lover of music (in general) I also studied composition and recently has focused on music for film.

Since I've decided to join the Guitar Nine Records site as a columnist I tried to get an answer to this question: What is the best way to teach cool licks and useful techniques and at the same time how to make the student achieves his own style? I still don't know if I found the answer but this is what I'm going to do. I will be focused on phrasing. Examples will include a mix of different techniques in order to play an advanced and colorful approach to the solos.

I hope you enjoy my column and thanks for steppin' by!

The example below is from a song that I wrote called "Farfalla".
