Review of "Cactus Cruz"

@ iTunes
By: John Nicholas

letter n "Cactus Cruz", his third Shrapnel CD, Michael Lee Firkins has brought back some of the rock sound of his first release and also thrown in some blues and other influences. "Grandma Dynomite" and "Freeway Lines" still show the country elements that give him a unique edge. (If the word "country" is scaring you away please give it a chance. This is still virtuoso music that happens to use some chord and melodies that are often used in country music. No yodeling or truck references to be found) "Midnight Surf" is an interesting song that has a Spanish flair that reminds me of old Al Di Meola melodies in a surf/blues setting.
