cd CD Information

People Get Ready
Curtis Mayfield - The melody, even without the lyrics, conveys the message.

Buckets Of Rain
Bob Dylan used open D tuning and played great. This is an impression in Drop D.

I`ve Got A Secret
Fred Neil caught everyone`s ear with his 1960`s compositions - a blend of folk/blues/jazz with somewhat "beat" lyrics.

My Creole Belle
Mississippi John Hurt - a charmer - is there a picker that doesn`t love Mr. Hurt?

Sawdust Blues
Will Brady - composed at the "Sawdust Festival", Laguna Beach, as a strolling musician - Blues in E - always a good choice (actually Db concert).

You Better Move On
Arthur Alexander - I first heard this done by the Stones, then A.A. - so good.

Buckeyed Jam
Mark Turnbull is a local unsung hero and a pal. He has written a thousand wonderful songs, easy. I had the pleasure of playing this one in a great Orange County band, "Honk", in the early `70s - it was memorable.

Blessed Be The Name
Traditional - A friend wrote a short story with me as a character. I stop a Civil War battle by playing this song. Wow. I try to keep that in mind.

All I Have To Do Is Dream
Boudleaux Bryant. 1958 - the Everly Brothers pouring out of my first portable radio. I was gone!

The Seven Bridges Road
Steve Young. An impression of a song I learned from an early band-mate, the notorious Tom Newbill. A homesick mood.

Thousand Signs
Will Brady - A beautiful beach in South Laguna. A tropical groove thing in Drop D tuning.

Trouble In Mind
Traditional - I worked in a coffee house in the early 60`s (the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach) where I learned my first blues licks from Brownie McGhee. Sonny Terry once took me to lunch because I gave him a ride to L.A. - I learned this song from them and sang it for 20 years before I knew what it meant.

My Old Pals
Richard Stekol - Another local song writing guitar hero and pal. This is just a line sketch of a great song.

Smiley
Will Brady - A jam thing named after a "buddy-band" from 1970, Smiley Cayucos.

Good News (Chariot`s A-Comin`)
Traditional - When I first started playing the guitar, The Kingston Trio were playing this. Two chords - oh yea!

Goodnight Irene
Huddie Ledbetter - The resignation and strength of the lyrics are reflected in this timeless melody. "Leadbelly" - you`d have to be soulful with a name like that. This one`s for my Ma.
