his classic album marked Jeff Becks departure from his hard rock roots, into the fusion realm, long known as a player of a different cloth, he took full advantage of his uncanny use of tonal mastery of the guitar, signature "licks", and his musical savvy, to create one of many guitarists and music lovers alikes' favorite all-time instrumental masterpieces. "Blow By Blow", was from the first song to the last, an adventure in sounds that were really never heard on guitar up to this time. One gets the idea that every note produced by each musician is exacted and composed, yet the free flowing songs allow much in the way of improvisation. This album won the prestigious "Best Guitar Album" award, and Jeff "Best Guitarist" awards, both from Guitar Player Magazines' readers poll in the year of this release, giving more credence to this prodigious effort. Beck surrounded himself with superlative musicians for this project, none that would dominate the stage, but players that blended well, to create a symbiosis between them, many reviews have been written on this album, and none could compare to what lies in the grooves of the vinyl from which it came. "Blow By Blow", will always get playing time, as I connsider this a timeless classic for instrumental guitar based albums.
