Troy Stetina is an accomplished, passionate guitar player from Milwaukee, Wisconsin (U.S.A.) who expresses his style as progressive, instrumental hard rock and metal, as can be heard on his latest release, "Exottica". His favorite guitars consist of a Jackson soloist with Kahler vibrato and a St. Blues guitar ("self-scalloped"). Stetina has played guitar since 1978, and plainly confirms his career goal, "With Exottica, I'm hoping to be able to be a full time recording artist, instead of being an author/writer and part time recording artist. Guess I'd say I've had enough of the educational aspect of guitar! So I formed ModRock Records with a partner, and we're pushing Exottica, but we'd also like to be able to sign and produce other bands we like in my studio, Artist Underground. If Exottica turns out to be enough of a commercial success, then we can do that. Being a successful indie record label would be a trip, too! We'll see what happens."
When asked to reveal his ideal effect for the guitar, Stetina countered with, "Delay, a little echo is cool," and then detailed his musicial goals, "I'd like to spread a more positive vibe in heavy rock. Too much negativity in the world today." He would like to someday study er... nothing ("I feel I've pretty well covered the educational aspect at this point. I've been teaching and writing for more than 15 years now. So I'm more anxious to get away from studying and get more into the playing and performing"), and is at this time listening to nothing in particular ("Too wide a selection to even begin to cover it all. I like music on a song by song basis, and less on an artist basis. My inspirations are often from movies or soundtracks, because they seem more 'mood' based, which is how I compose my own stuff"). His utmost satisfaction? "Composing and recording! I also dig producing other bands," he answers decidedly.
Stetina mentions continuing and future projects in his own words, "Trying to get "Exottica" out into the guitar community and into retail distribution by the end of April. I've also been quite busy with several different bands in my recording studio and doing the occasional book project or magazine article in between."
Stetina's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes one solo album ("Exottica") and participation on another recording (Stetna "Set The World On Fire").
