Sterling Koch is a nimble-fingered and consummate axe wielder currently based in Cressona, Pennsylvania (U.S.A.) who represents his playing style as instrumental contemporary acoustic electric blues, as a listener can readily appreciate on his most recent recording, "V.I.H.". His most utilized guitar is a Charvel 625CE. Koch has been playing guitar since 1975, and straight from the shoulder discloses his career objective, "Continue to make acoustic guitar-based CDs and expand my studio."
When prompted to divulge his ultimate effect for the guitar, Koch unflinchingly stated, "Reverb, nothing beats a great sounding acoustic guitar with a little bit of 'air' behind it," and continued by citing his musicial goals, "To glorify God through the ability He has blessed me with to make music." He eagerly hopes to, at some point, study fingerpicking ("I am a terrible fingerpicker and am forever amazed by the likes of Phil Keaggy and Chet Atkins"), and is presently listening to Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons, Phil Keaggy and Peter White. His principal gratification? "Playing every Saturday night at my church's Contemporary service. Also hearing from all of the people who have purchased and enjoyed my CD," he explains without a doubt.
Koch wraps up by mentioning current and approaching endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "Expansion of my studio from 16 to 24 tracks and new board. New CD in the works for release early 2000."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Sterling Koch to guitarists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and others.
