Stef Burns is a distinctive and adroit axe wielder currently based in Benicia, California (U.S.A.) who represents his playing style as jazz/rock fusion, as a music fan can now experience on his most recent recording, "Swamp Tea". His workhorse guitar is a 1991 Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster built by Larry Brooks. Burns has been playing guitar since 1973, and putting it simply, divulges his career objective, "My second album.(laugh)."
When requested to let slip his favorite or most used effect for the guitar, Burns resolutely answered, "One of my amps in a nice room," and then outlined his musicial goals, "I try to do what moves me; melody, changes, groove, vibe, and hope that it transmits to the listener." He maintains a desire to, at some point, study a new language, specifically Italian, and is at the moment listening to Jeff Beck "Who Else", Yellowjackets "Four Corners", Beatles "Magical Mystery Tour" and John Scofield "Loud Jazz". His principal gratification? "My four year old son singing "Strawberry Fields Forever" WITH the English accent," he explains without hesitation.
Burns wraps up by noting long-term and forthcoming endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "Writing songs for my second solo CD. Touring with Vasco Rossi In Italy, and with Alice Cooper. Learning how to use my studio."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Stef Burns to guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Steve Lukather, Joe Satriani, Dave Bennett and others.
