Stef Burns is a potent, vibrant guitarist from Benicia, California (U.S.A.) who describes his style as jazz/rock fusion, as demonstrated on his latest release, "Swamp Tea". His guitar of choice is a 1991 Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster built by Larry Brooks. Burns has played guitar since 1973, and openly states his career goal, "My second album.(laugh)."
When prompted to reveal his favorite effect for the guitar, Burns replied, "One of my amps in a nice room," and offered his musicial goals, "I try to do what moves me; melody, changes, groove, vibe, and hope that it transmits to the listener." He would love to someday study a new language, specifically Italian, and is currently listening to Jeff Beck "Who Else", Yellowjackets "Four Corners", Beatles "Magical Mystery Tour" and John Scofield "Loud Jazz". His greatest satisfaction? "My four year old son singing "Strawberry Fields Forever" WITH the English accent," he states unambiguously.
Burns lists ongoing and upcoming projects thusly, "Writing songs for my second solo CD. Touring with Vasco Rossi In Italy, and with Alice Cooper. Learning how to use my studio."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Stef Burns to guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Steve Lukather, Joe Satriani, Dave Bennett and others.
Burns's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Swamp Tea", "World, Universe, Infinity") and participation on a number of other recordings (Gianluca Sturiale Group "I Wish You", Steve Vai "Various Artists - Archives Vol. 4").
