Sheryl Bailey is a self-motivated, potent guitar player from Long Island City, New York (U.S.A.) who expresses her style as contemporary jazz, as can be heard on her latest release, "Live @ The Fat Cat". Her guitar of choice is a McCurdy "Mercury". Bailey has played guitar since 1979, and frankly confirms her career goal, "Touring Europe regularly with my trio and writing about 1,000 more tunes."
When asked to reveal her ideal effect for the guitar, Bailey countered with, "Wah-wah," and then detailed her musicial goals, "My compositions are stories about the people and places in my life. I'm
blessed that I travel quite a bit playing music, so I see and meet many
new faces and places. I also play in many diverse musical settings from
Jazz to Klezmer to Pop, so all of these musics influences my
sensibilities. I'm really just seeking to be honest and find expression
for the deeper emotions in my life." She would like to someday study the French language, and is currently listening to Klezmer, hardbop, blues and classic rock. Her utmost satisfaction? "Performing my music and spreading that 'good feeling'," she answers decidedly.
Bailey mentions ongoing and upcoming projects in her own words, "My "Jazz Guitars Play Hendrix" project, Manchester Craftsman Guild
project of arranging my music for big band, "Moveable Shapes" - my new
Mel Bay downloadable book on II-V's, David Krakauer's upcoming
Afro-funk meets Jewish Soul recording/tour with Fred Wesley (of James
Brown fame), LA tour in January and a tour with my trio in Europe later
this year."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Sheryl Bailey to guitarists such as John Abercrombie and others.
