Sean Joplin is a spirited, energetic guitarist from Sunland, California (U.S.A.) who describes his style as melodic guitar oriented rock, as demonstrated on his latest release, "Tales From Area 51". His guitars of choice include a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 and a Paul Reed Smith Studio. Joplin has played guitar since 1987, and clearly states his career goal, "I see myself writing and playing music that makes me, and hopefully others happy, and of course being able to support myself and my family. I am also working to expand my recording facility (Lion's Den Studios) and increase the amount of work done with other musical groups."
When asked about his favorite effect for the guitar, Joplin replied, "Delay - With various settings, you can get many different textures and moods," and mentioned his musicial goals, "My goal is to always be honest and just be me when I'm writing and playing. I'm a very upbeat and positive thinking person who thoroughly enjoys being happy and having a good time always." He would love to someday study classical guitar ("I used to dedicate many hours every week to strictly classical guitar, but I haven't focused on that in the last year or so. Studying with Segovia while he was alive would be pretty cool, but I understand he could be a pretty tough teacher"), and is currently listening to the new Platypus CD with Ty Tabor ("one of my favorite guitarists") "Southern Steel" or "Coast to Coast" by Steve Morse, Mike Landau's "Tales from the Buldge" and Rik Emmett's "Ten Invitations". His greatest satisfaction? "To stand in a room and show a new song to the band (Dreamland) and have each person add or modify their parts to reflect their styles, and have all of that come together is the greatest. To hear things that I wouldn't have thought of, that work really well and add depth to the song and arrangement, puts a huge grin on my face," he states unequivocally.
Joplin lists ongoing and upcoming projects thusly, "Always writing, and finalizing material for a follow up record to "Tales From Area 51", as well as nailing down show dates to support the current record. My musical day can range from sitting on a couch with an acoustic or classical guitar, to working up full on demos of new songs. The mood of each day will dictate what happens, but my goal is to play every day and experiment with new ideas."
