Scott Hughes is a committed and highly regarded six-stringer currently based in Portland, Maine (U.S.A.) who reveals his playing style as instrumental rock/fusion, as a listener can readily experience on his most recent album, "Brown Bag". His most utilized guitars include a Fender Strat Plus Deluxe and a Kubicki "Mutt" Strat. Hughes has been playing guitar since 1985, and with no holds barred declares his career aspiration, "To continue releasing my own CDs, teaching privately, and maybe even do a gig now and then! I'd like to think a career in music can be just as lucrative as any other field, if you go about it the right way."
When requested to divulge his one essential effect for the guitar, Hughes came back with, "For myself-distortion, for the listener-beer (both make me sound a lot better)," and then pointed out his musicial goals, "To keep improving and learning about styles I'm not familiar with. There's always something more to learn and incorporate into your own style." He fervently hopes to one day study piano, and is presently listening to Allan Holdsworth, Scott Henderson, Steely Dan, Charles Ives and Aquarium Rescue Unit. His primary fulfillment? "Teaching. Having a kid start out from square one, and really seeing them progress is one of the coolest feelings," he declares categorically.
Hughes concludes by listing current and approaching undertakings succinctly, by saying, "Currently teaching full time, and writing material for the follow up to "lapse", hopefully for a late '98/early '99 release."
Hughes's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Lapse", "Brown Bag", "The In-Between Phase") and participation on a number of other recordings (The Alchemists "The Alchemists", Jason Becker Trib. "Warmth In The Wilderness Vol. II", Fresh Blood Volume 1 "Six-String Extremes", Guitar 2001 "Lick This", JD Project "Tangled Web").
