Ryan Formato is a spirited and nimble-fingered axe wielder currently based in Mastic, New York (USA) who represents his playing style as instrumental metal with heavy neo-classical influences, as a music fan can now experience on his most recent recording, "Out Of This World". His workhorse guitar is an Ibanez Jem 7DBK. Formato has been playing guitar since 1997, and putting it simply, divulges his career objective, "I am working towards being a studio musician, releasing more
instrumental albums, and touring around New York."
When requested to let slip his favorite or most used effect for the guitar, Formato resolutely answered, "Digitech 2120," and then outlined his musicial goals, "I am trying to convey pure emotion in my playing and hopefully the
message I am conveying helps someone express themselves through my songs." He maintains a desire to, at some point, study with the guitar master Steve Vai ("He has
been my biggest inspiration since I was 14"), and is at the moment listening to Steve Vai, Jason Becker, Yngwie Malmsteen and Michael Angelo Batio. His principal gratification? "Playing live instrumentals really gives me the greatest satisfaction
ever but the completion of this first album, "Out of This World," was a
really great sense of satisfaction," he explains without hesitation.
Formato wraps up by noting long-term and forthcoming endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "Right now, I am working on a second guitar album which is currently just
in its beginnings. While doing this I am getting together an
instrumental metal band which will play out on Long Island and New York."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Ryan Formato to guitarists such as Steve Vai and others.
Formato's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes one solo album ("Out Of This World").
