Pete Marinovich is a passionate, enthusiastic guitar player from Rockville, Maryland (U.S.A.) who expresses his style as chordy fingerstyle most commonly found in brazilian bossa, as one can appreciate on his latest album, "Nude With Guitar". His favorite guitars include a Gretsch Country Classic and an Angel Rosados Classical. Marinovich has played guitar since 1974, and candidly acknowledges his career aspiration, "Independence. I love composing and recording much more than performing so I am working toward getting as much exposure for my music as possible. My goal is for each recording project to make enough money to finance the next one in perpetuity. Performances make me think about compromising my natural self expression in order to go over big. Recording is free of that anxiety."
When asked to name his number one effect for the guitar, Marinovich answered back with, "Lexicon reverb," and then cited his musicial goals, "I want each musical piece to have an excitement and compelling nature void of superfluous gimmicks and gratuitous riffs. I want to minimalize production only to that which gets the point across. And, most of all, make sure every instrument conspires with both lungs and a heart beat, avoiding as much as possible the universe of sequencing, sampling and digital processing.
" He hopes to one day study the masters of Gypsy jazz guitar, and is at this time listening to contemporary soul/R&B, particulary Jill Scott. His utmost fulfillment? "Landscaping and gardening gets me out in the elements creating more beauty with my hands. I feel the sun is what keeps me sane and helps me to reboot," he affirms unquestionably.
Marinovich concludes by mentioning continuing and future undertakings in his own words, "After concluding a successful three-and-a-half year project with folk singer Doris Justis (billed as Doris Justis and Pete Marinovich) and produced an interesting jazz-infused folk CD called "Bright Paintings." I felt the guitar work on this project too understated for inclusion on Guitar Nine. However, the experience has inspired me to move on to a higher-energy project as producer and musical director for a talented vocalist named Krystal Klingenberg (www.krystalandthekick.com)."
Marinovich's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Nude With Guitar", "Second Voice", "Closet Songs").
