Paul Rose is a nimble-fingered and talented axe wielder currently based in Newcastle (North East England) who represents his playing style as rock with blues and country/jazz/ambient/new age mixed in, as a listener can readily appreciate on his most recent recording, "Magic City". His most utilized guitars consist of a Sunburst '62 Reissue Strat and a nameless Cream Colored Telecaster. Rose has been playing guitar since 1977, and straight from the shoulder discloses his career objective, "I would like to see more of the world thru playing the guitar and bring
enjoyment to music lovers everywhere. I have always been fascinated by the guitar, as it is an incredibly verstile instrument, as we all know. I hope that this fascination stays with for the rest of my life."
When prompted to divulge his ultimate effect for the guitar, Rose unflinchingly stated, "A liitle bit of stereo reverb," and continued by citing his musicial goals, "None come to mind." He eagerly hopes to, at some point, study with Bill Frisell ("A guitarist who interests me very much"), and is presently listening to Miles Davis, Michael Hedges, Richie Blackmore, Chet Atkins and Jimi Hendrix. His principal gratification? "I love a good gig, you can't beat it. I love the process of putting together
pieces of music, right up to the final mix. I like to hear from people who
have perhaps bought a CD by chance and have found that they have really
enjoyed those same peices of music," he explains without a doubt.
Rose wraps up by mentioning current and approaching endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "I'm recording a CD at the moment that I hope to have released in the spring time. It's a lot more representative of what I do live and probably less experimental. I only ever practice on the Telecaster when it isn't plugged in. This gives me the opportunity to really get the most out of the guitar when there is no drive or effects to support my week points. I spend a lot of time on the phone securing gigs and putting things in the post.
