Nick Thompson is a talented and reputable six-stringer currently based in Boston, Massachusetts (U.S.A.) who reveals his playing style as fingerstyle, as a listener can readily experience on his most recent album, "Sometimes Splatter Paints". His most utilized guitar is an Alvarez Yairi six-string. Thompson has been playing guitar since 1985, and with no holds barred declares his career aspiration, "I hope to have recorded a song worthy of the title "blue guitar" from Wallace Stevens' poem. I'd like to have made at least one person feel as good as I do when I listen to Bach or Coltrane."
When requested to divulge his one essential effect for the guitar, Thompson came back with, "I don't use effects, but I'd like to learn some," and then pointed out his musicial goals, "I try to communicate emotions that I have that I know are universal." He fervently hopes to one day study drums, specifically African drumming, and is presently listening to John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett, Seth Austen and Bach. His primary fulfillment? "I like to work with activist groups, campaigning hard with people dedicated to things that they really believe in," he declares categorically.
Thompson concludes by listing current and approaching undertakings succinctly, by saying, "I only practice when I am in the right mood. Sometimes it's a couple of hours a day, sometimes I don't play at all. I am preparing to record some trumpet and fingerstyle guitar duets with my best friend soon."
