Nick Thompson is a passionate and distinctive musician/guitarist currently based in Boston, Massachusetts (U.S.A.) who denotes his playing style as fingerstyle, as one might want to hear on his most recent recording, "Sometimes Splatter Paints". His workhorse guitar is an Alvarez Yairi six-string. Thompson has been playing guitar since 1985, and unreservedly shares his career objective, "I hope to have recorded a song worthy of the title "blue guitar" from Wallace Stevens' poem. I'd like to have made at least one person feel as good as I do when I listen to Bach or Coltrane."
When asked to disclose his definitive or preferred effect for the guitar, Thompson purposefully responded with, "I don't use effects, but I'd like to learn some," and outlined his musicial goals, "I try to communicate emotions that I have that I know are universal." He keeps open the possibility to, at some point, study drums, specifically African drumming, and is at the moment listening to John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett, Seth Austen and Bach. His most important gratification? "I like to work with activist groups, campaigning hard with people dedicated to things that they really believe in," he muses confidently.
Thompson winds up by detailing long-term and forthcoming endeavors insightfully, by saying, "I only practice when I am in the right mood. Sometimes it's a couple of hours a day, sometimes I don't play at all. I am preparing to record some trumpet and fingerstyle guitar duets with my best friend soon."
Thompson's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Sometimes Splatter Paints", "Red Weather", "Lend Me Your Ears").
