Neal Nagaoka is a dynamic and expressive musician/guitarist currently based in Los Angeles (California U.S.A.) who denotes his playing style as instrumental shred, as a music fan can hear on his most recent recording, "Transition". photoHis workhorse guitar is an ESP Horizon. Nagaoka has been playing guitar since 1984, and unreservedly relates his career objective, "To make a decent living playing music. Also to be teaching, to release several albums and to be touring everywhere."

When asked to disclose his top choice for an effect for the guitar, Nagaoka purposefully responded with, "Lexicon MPX-1 Reverb," and outlined his musicial goals, "I want my audience to get a feeling of awe and satisfaction every time they hear my music." He keeps open the possibility to, at some point, study the law of physics ("So I can understand why the G string goes out of tune everytime I slide on it really hard"), and is at the moment listening to a lot of instrumental music. His most important gratification? "Every time I finish recording a new tune and every time I see one of my students improving as a player," he muses confidently.

photoNagaoka winds up by mentioning long-term and forthcoming endeavors insightfully, by saying, "I am teaching at GIT and I have recorded a few new tunes for my next CD. I am also in the process of assembling a band so I can better promote my CD. Another project I am planning is a CD with vocals. Last but not least, I will be doing some clinics around the LA area in the near future to help promote Vibro Tek's Double Whammy Tremolo Systems."

Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Neal Nagaoka to guitarists such as Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, Neil Zaza and others.

Nagaoka's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("The Second Coming", "Transition") and participation on another recording (Scott Hughes "Brown Bag").
