Mike Valeras is a skillful and accomplished axe wielder currently based in Boston, Massachusetts (U.S.A.) who represents his playing style as jazz/rock fusion, as a listener can readily appreciate on his most recent album, "The Mike Valeras Group". His most utilized guitars consist of an Ernie Ball Music Man Silouette Special and a Parker Night Fly. Valeras has been playing guitar since 1977, and without beating around the bush reveals his career aspiration, "To become more proficient as an improviser in the jazz idiom and to improve as a songwriter."
When asked to divulge his ultimate effect for the guitar, Valeras responded by saying, "Stereo chorus," and continued by mentioning his musicial goals, "To show people (sometimes one at a time) that there is more to music than pop radio and MTV." He eagerly hopes to one day study classical guitar, and is presently listening to Tribal Tech, Chick Corea, Mike Stern and Pat Metheny. His principal fulfillment? "My greatest satisfaction is when as player you can make jazz or fusion translate to the non musician," he declares incontestably.
Valeras concludes by detailing current and approaching undertakings enthusiastically, by saying, "Gigs, gigs, gigs, write, write, write, and hopefully more gigs."
