Mattias IA Eklundh is a nimble-fingered and talented axe wielder currently based in Gothenburg (Sweden) who represents his playing style as freak guitar, with an overall passion for musical weirdness, as a listener can readily appreciate on his most recent recording, "Freak Guitar". His most utilized guitar is an Apple Horn model. Eklundh has been playing guitar since 1980, and straight from the shoulder discloses his career objective, "To do what I am doing now: compose weird music, try to explore the electric guitar little by little...and of course world domination, herh, herh..."
When prompted to divulge his ultimate effect for the guitar, Eklundh unflinchingly stated, "Distortion, never use anything else," and continued by citing his musicial goals, "Trying to make guitar stuff that everybody can sink their teeth into, not just guitar players." He eagerly hopes to, at some point, study the various instruments of the orchestra real thoroughly some day to be able to write some strange tunes, and is presently listening to Frank Zappa, Howard Shore ("his soundtrack to the movie "Crash" is excellent guitar music"), Shakti with John McLaughlin, Los Lobos and Messhuggah. His principal gratification? "To be able to wake up everyday with a sinister smile and do exactly what I want to do: make music," he explains without a doubt.
Eklundh wraps up by mentioning current and approaching endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "As mentioned above, the concert for Electric Guitar, Dildo and Orchestra (which takes a lot of time), a forthcoming album with my band Freak Kitchen, a two-week seminar called Freak Guitar Camp 2000 in Sweden this summer, touring, etc."
