Matthew Von Doran is an energetic and talented axe wielder currently based in Orange County, California (U.S.A.) who represents his playing style as jazz/rock/fusion/blues, as a listener can readily appreciate on his most recent recording, "Clazz". His most utilized guitars include a Tom Anderson electric solidbody and a Gibson Chet Atkins nylon string. Doran has been playing guitar since 1976, and straight from the shoulder discloses his career objective, "Solo artist with record deal. Also sideman/band member with different artists of different styles."
When prompted to divulge his ultimate effect for the guitar, Doran unflinchingly stated, "Reverb," and continued by citing his musicial goals, "To play appropriately in the moment with honesty and integrity." He eagerly hopes to, at some point, study at Berklee in Boston, and is presently listening to Wes Montgomery, Robben Ford, Robin Trower, Pat Metheny and Keith Jarrett. His principal gratification? "When I can step back and let the music happen without my participation," he explains without a doubt.
Doran wraps up by mentioning current and approaching endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "Scott Wilkie band, Tim Moyer band, Razz, Don Miller big band, Kerry Getz band, Matthew Von Doran trio, teaching, studio work."
Doran's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes one recording project (Razz "Clazz").
