Mathias Holm is a consummate, energetic guitarist from Hudiksvall (Sweden) who describes his style as neo-classical/instrumental hard rock, as demonstrated on his latest release, "Pictures Of A Dream". His guitar of choice is a Godin ST5. Holm has played guitar since 1985, and clearly states his career goal, "My goal is to be a better guitarist and release albums to keep neo-classical/instrumental music alive."
When asked about his favorite effect for the guitar, Holm replied, "Distortion. Because if I wanted to play clean guitar I would have used my acoustic guitar," and mentioned his musicial goals, "When I write music my dreams come true and I hope everybody will like my songs." He would love to someday study music theory ("I can't read music. It would be much easier to remember my songs without having to record them"), and is currently listening to Al Di Meola, Dream Theater, Vinnie Moore, Mike Oldfield and everything else. His greatest satisfaction? "Rehearsing my music with my friends Conny Payne (bass) and Jon Skore (drums) gives me a great feeling," he states unequivocally.
Holm lists ongoing and upcoming projects thusly, "I am working on a new album, which I hope will be released this winter or spring of 1999. We have already recorded the drums. It will be nine instrumental songs and two with vocals. The musicians are Conny Payne (bass), Jon Skore (drums) and Rikard Andre (keyboards). I haven't decided who will be the singer yet. We will be looking for a record company when we have recorded and mixed the CD."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Mathias Holm to guitarists such as Vinnie Moore and others.
