Mathias Holm is a skillful and expressive musician/guitarist currently based in Hudiksvall (Sweden) who denotes his playing style as neo-classical/instrumental hard rock, as a music fan can hear on his most recent recording, "Pictures Of A Dream". His workhorse guitar is a Godin ST5. Holm has been playing guitar since 1985, and unreservedly relates his career objective, "My goal is to be a better guitarist and release albums to keep neo-classical/instrumental music alive."
When asked to disclose his top choice for an effect for the guitar, Holm resolutely answered, "Distortion. Because if I wanted to play clean guitar I would have used my acoustic guitar," and outlined his musicial goals, "When I write music my dreams come true and I hope everybody will like my songs." He keeps open the possibility to, at some point, study music theory ("I can't read music. It would be much easier to remember my songs without having to record them"), and is at the moment listening to Al Di Meola, Dream Theater, Vinnie Moore, Mike Oldfield and everything else. His most important gratification? "Rehearsing my music with my friends Conny Payne (bass) and Jon Skore (drums) gives me a great feeling," he muses confidently.
Holm winds up by mentioning long-term and forthcoming endeavors insightfully, by saying, "I am working on a new album, which I hope will be released this winter or spring of 1999. We have already recorded the drums. It will be nine instrumental songs and two with vocals. The musicians are Conny Payne (bass), Jon Skore (drums) and Rikard Andre (keyboards). I haven't decided who will be the singer yet. We will be looking for a record company when we have recorded and mixed the CD."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Mathias Holm to guitarists such as Vinnie Moore and others.
