Martin Schmidt is a spirited, dazzling guitar player from Wiesbaden, Hessen (Germany) who expresses his style as instrumental rock with elements of surf, blues, country and soundtracks, as one can appreciate on his latest album, "The Incredible Strange Sounds Of Mr. Smith". His favorite guitar is a 1974 Fender Stratocaster. Schmidt has played guitar since 1982, and candidly avows his career aspiration, "I want to get a bigger audience for my own music, place some songs in films and advertisements and play gigs far away from my local area. Besides that, Iīm looking for well paid sideman gigs in blues, country and rock bands."
When asked to name his number one effect for the guitar, Schmidt answered back with, "Fender reverb unit," and then cited his musicial goals, "I try to make the listener feel a certain way or awaken a few pictures in his mind, the way a Ennrico Morricone soundtrack does." He hopes to one day study pedal steel guitar with Joe Goldmark, and is at this time listening to Slacktone, Madrugada, The Mermen, Jim Campilongo and Govīt Mule. His utmost fulfillment? "When people like my music for the way it is and understand what I want to bring across with it," he affirms unquestionably.
Schmidt details continuing and future undertakings in his own words, "I recorded a CD with my surf band "The Razorblades", I'll try to play more gigs with my band, get more work as a writer and music journalist and write songs for my next CD."
Schmidt's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("The Blues & Some Other Stuff", "The Incredible Strange Sounds Of Mr. Smith") and participation on a number of other recordings (Dr. Blues & The HR "The Return Of Dr. Blues", Incredible Mr. Smith "Adventures In The Land Of Twang").
