Martin Schmidt is a consummate and reputable six-stringer currently based in Wiesbaden, Hessen (Germany) who reveals his playing style as instrumental rock with elements of surf, blues, country and soundtracks, as a listener can readily experience on his most recent album, "The Incredible Strange Sounds Of Mr. Smith". His most utilized guitar is a 1974 Fender Stratocaster. Schmidt has been playing guitar since 1982, and with no holds barred reveals his career aspiration, "I want to get a bigger audience for my own music, place some songs in films and advertisements and play gigs far away from my local area. Besides that, Iīm looking for well paid sideman gigs in blues, country and rock bands."
When asked to divulge his one essential effect for the guitar, Schmidt came back with, "Fender reverb unit," and continued by mentioning his musicial goals, "I try to make the listener feel a certain way or awaken a few pictures in his mind, the way a Ennrico Morricone soundtrack does." He fervently hopes to one day study pedal steel guitar with Joe Goldmark, and is presently listening to Slacktone, Madrugada, The Mermen, Jim Campilongo and Govīt Mule. His primary fulfillment? "When people like my music for the way it is and understand what I want to bring across with it," he declares incontestably.
Schmidt concludes by detailing current and approaching undertakings succinctly, by saying, "I recorded a CD with my surf band "The Razorblades", I'll try to play more gigs with my band, get more work as a writer and music journalist and write songs for my next CD."
Schmidt's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("The Blues & Some Other Stuff", "The Incredible Strange Sounds Of Mr. Smith") and participation on a number of other recordings (Dr. Blues & The HR "The Return Of Dr. Blues", Incredible Mr. Smith "Adventures In The Land Of Twang", Razorblades "Twang Machine", Razorblades "Gimme Some Noise!").
