Martin Schmidt is a passionate, self-motivated guitarist from Wiesbaden, Hessen (Germany) who describes his style as instrumental rock with elements of surf, blues, country and soundtracks, as documented on his latest release, "The Incredible Strange Sounds Of Mr. Smith". His guitar of choice is a 1974 Fender Stratocaster. Schmidt has played guitar since 1982, and openly affirms his career goal, "I want to get a bigger audience for my own music, place some songs in films and advertisements and play gigs far away from my local area. Besides that, Iīm looking for well paid sideman gigs in blues, country and rock bands."
When prompted to reveal his preferred effect for the guitar, Schmidt responded with, "Fender reverb unit," and offered his musicial goals, "I try to make the listener feel a certain way or awaken a few pictures in his mind, the way a Ennrico Morricone soundtrack does." He would love to someday study pedal steel guitar with Joe Goldmark, and is currently listening to Slacktone, Madrugada, The Mermen, Jim Campilongo and Govīt Mule. His greatest satisfaction? "When people like my music for the way it is and understand what I want to bring across with it," he states unambiguously.
Schmidt notes ongoing and upcoming projects thusly, "I recorded a CD with my surf band "The Razorblades", I'll try to play more gigs with my band, get more work as a writer and music journalist and write songs for my next CD."
Schmidt's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("The Blues & Some Other Stuff", "The Incredible Strange Sounds Of Mr. Smith") and participation on a number of other recordings (Dr. Blues & The HR "The Return Of Dr. Blues", Incredible Mr. Smith "Adventures In The Land Of Twang", Razorblades "Twang Machine").
