Mario Otero is a driven and expressive musician/guitarist currently based in El Paso, Texas (U.S.A.) who denotes his playing style as Latin instrumental jazz/rock fusion, as a music fan can hear on his most recent recording, "Las Guitarras De Mario Otero". His workhorse guitar is a '51 Les Paul. Otero has been playing guitar since 1966, and unreservedly relates his career objective, "We are now in the process of opening the first guitar school in the area. I woul like to travel and perfom again after the kids are grown."
When asked to disclose his top choice for an effect for the guitar, Otero resolutely answered, "Reverb," and outlined his musicial goals, "To become more proficient at my instrument." He keeps open the possibility to, at some point, study classical guitar, and is at the moment listening to Toots Thielman, Paco de Lucia, Wes Montgomery and John Williams. His most important gratification? "Happiness on my childrens faces. A great musical night at the club or concert," he muses confidently.
Otero winds up by mentioning long-term and forthcoming endeavors insightfully, by saying, "I spend my days practicing and teaching guitar. The next album should be released in 3 months. This is a recording of myself and my new group " Las Guitarras de Fuego" consisting of two acoustic guitars and one acoustic bass. Performing old latin hits like "Besame Mucho", "Quisas Quisas Quisas", "Tarrantella", etc. All with our own arrangements. We really push the envelope as far as the metronome markings are concerned."
