Lyall Steel is an expressive, 'righteous' six-stringer from British Columbia (Canada) who reveals his style as acoustic/fingerstyle/classical/folk, as one can clearly experience on his latest album, "Emanations". His favorite guitar is a Classical (hand-made). Steel has played guitar since 1964, and freely declares his career aspiration, "Earning a living from music (concerts/CD's/composing) and touring - Europe and South America, in particular. However, I do not want to live in hotels, airports, etc."
When requested to divulge his ultimate effect for the guitar, Steel came back with, "Digital delay," and then pointed out his musicial goals, "Expressing myself through my compostions - be it romance, angst, misfortune, whatever." He fervently hopes to one day study how to build and play an 8-string guitar, and is at this time listening to everything ("Usually world/folk/jazz based rather than pop or classical. Tomatito, Roland Dyens, Stephan Rak, Nonato Luis are some of my favorite guitarists"). His primary fulfillment? "The joy of a new composition. I look at creativity as a spiritual development," he affirms categorically.
Steel concludes by listing continuing and future undertakings succinctly, by saying, "Lining up gigs for next year. Composing, of course and learning some of my newer pieces for a new program as well as for a new CD, which will be somewhat more of a challenging listen than "Emanations"."
Steel's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Emanations", "Revolutions", "Alchemy").
