Joy Basu is an accomplished and adroit axe wielder currently based in North Hollywood, California (U.S.A.) who represents his playing style as 'in your face' and ballsy, as a music fan can now experience on his most recent recording, "Joy Basu". His workhorse guitar is an ESP. Basu has been playing guitar since 1982, and putting it simply, divulges his career objective, "Touring, recording making bucks and most of all being mentally stable."
When asked to finally make public his favorite or most used effect for the guitar, Basu unflinchingly stated, "Hand tone comes before any effect, but If I could choose only one, it would be distortion," and continued by outlining his musicial goals, "Extreme emotions. Whether it is love, hate, confusion or whatever, it should be felt to the extreme." He maintains a desire to, at some point, study engineering ("I will be getting a lot better at sampling, digital editing and stuff like that"), and is at the moment listening to NIN, Marilyn Manson, Toni Braxton and FYF. His principal gratification? "Being on stage," he explains absolutely.
Basu wraps up by noting long-term and forthcoming endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "Playing with FYF. Doing live shows, videos, recording. We will be appearing in a movie soon. Doing sessions on the side for singer/songwritters. Teaching at L.A. Music Academy."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Joy Basu to guitarists such as Joe Satriani, Richie Kotzen, Greg Howe and others.
Basu's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Joy Basu", "Sinergy") and participation on a number of other recordings (The Alchemists "The Alchemists", JSR Records "Hottest Unknown Guitarists", Legacy "Legacy", Greg Marra "Collective Disorder", Rogosonic "Leave The World Alone").
