Jonas Hansson is a distinctive, sparkling guitar player from Los Angeles, California (U.S.A.) who expresses his style as neo-classical with shred and blues mixed, as one can appreciate on his latest release, "Classica". His favorite guitar is a Fender Strat (with Floyd Rose, Schecter and Bill Lawrence pick-ups). Hansson has played guitar since 1975, and plainly avows his career goal, "Since I'm doing more than guitar playing and am currently working on my rock musical, I want to see that in the theaters."
When asked to name his number one effect for the guitar, Hansson countered with, "Distortion," and then cited his musicial goals, "As far as "Classica" goes, it was a lot of emotions and inspirations from various sources over a couple of years that made me create this compilation of orchestrations with guitar on top." He hopes to someday study martial arts ("When I was a kid I was into martial arts and I wouldn't mind getting into it again"), and is at this time listening to his own music. His utmost satisfaction? "When I played live in Tokyo, I realized during a guitar solo that I had a couple of thousand lighters joining me in my solo. That was one of my greatest satisfactions. Also when I was 14, I played in front of 20,000 people in Spain and that kind of made me like what I was doing," he answers unquestionably.
Hansson details continuing and future projects in his own words, "Right now we are finishing up the new "Silver Mountain" CD which is a reunion of our first record (with Anders and Jens Johansson along with Per Stadin). Kind of an extension of our first neo-classical power metal record "Shakin Brains"."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Jonas Hansson to guitarists such as Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Uli Jon Roth and others.
Hansson's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Classica", "Valhallarama") and participation on a number of other recordings (Jonas Hansson Band "No. 1", Legacy "Legacy", Mountain Of Power "Mountain Of Power", Silver Mountain "Breakin' Chains").
