Jeff Kollman is an enthusiastic, potent guitar player from Granada Hills, California (U.S.A.) who expresses his style as hard rock with the sophistication of jazz harmony, as can be heard on his latest release, "Shedding Skin". photoHis guitars of choice include a 1979 BC Rich Wave and a Fender Strat (old). Kollman has played guitar since 1978, and frankly confirms his career goal, "I want to be one of the L.A. session cats who get all of the major label record calls. Also I've been doing some producing. I would like to build up my producing credits and hopefully get a big selling record under my belt that would put me on the map as a serious producer. The last would be to keep building up the small indie label that I started in 1987 (Marmaduke Records) and get it to a level of a mini major (with major label distribution)."

When requested to name his ideal effect for the guitar, Kollman countered with, "Univibe -- a la Jimi Hendrix," and submitted his musicial goals, "I think capturing different moods and emotions without needing lyics to set the tone. I think the groove of the music is so important and finding your own tone or voice as a player." He would like to someday study and/or record with Chick Corea ("If I can ever reach that level of musicianship"), and is currently listening to everything but country, King's X, Pat Martino, anything from the big band to bebop era, Brazilian music, Tower Of Power and Messugah. His utmost satisfaction? "When I've just finished a record. Especially if I produced it, and engineered it as well as wrote it. It's like your baby then," he answers indisputably.

photoKollman mentions ongoing and upcoming projects in his own words, "I'm doing post production and mixing a band from Florida that I've produced (Soapy Tuna). I'm also doing international clinics for Johnson, DOD, and Digitech. Territory covers New Zealand, Australia, Manilla, Thailand, Phillipines, Tokyo, and ends in Beijing, China. "

Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Jeff Kollman to guitarists such as John Petrucci, Greg Howe, Doug Aldrich, Michael Schenker, Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Reb Beach, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Frank Gambale, Jason Becker, Cyril Achard, Michael Angelo, Scott Henderson, Tony MacAlpine, Joe Satriani, Chris Poland and others.

Kollman's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Into The Unknown", "Shedding Skin", "Schizoid", "Guitar Screams Live") and participation on a number of other recordings (Cosmosquad "Squadrophenia", Cosmosquad "Live At The Baked Potato", Cosmosquad "Acid Test", Crumb Bros.
