David Weiss is an enthusiastic, passionate guitar player from Bellingham, Washington (USA) who expresses his style as equal parts Spanish, classical, folk and rock guitar, as can be heard on his latest release, "Finger Noise". His favorite guitar is a Dake Traphegan custom built classical. Weiss has played guitar since 1975, and plainly confirms his career goal, "My goal is to self release 3 or 4 albums of instrumental guitar music and sign with a label along the lines of Higher Octave or Narada. I see myself composing for dance, film, TV, video and soundtracks, and building a career as a concert performer."
When asked to reveal his ideal effect for the guitar, Weiss countered with, "My favorite effect is in my fingers," and then detailed his musicial goals, "I want to make music that people listen to while they are making love, having a romantic dinner, or relaxing. Because my music is instrumental, I want to transcend the language barrier and speak to people all over the world without the use of words, instead through sonic-inspired imagery." He would like to someday study with the flamenco masters ("I believe through studying their rhythms and technique I will find a way to embrace my own love for hard rock, blues, Latin, jazz, pop, funk, flamenco and classical guitar and do it all on a single nylon string guitar"), and is at this time listening to Jesse Cook, Ottmar Liebert, Santana, early Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix. His utmost satisfaction? "I get the greatest feeling when someone wants me to autograph a copy of my CD which they just bought. There's no feeling quite like it," he answers decidedly.
Weiss mentions continuing and future projects in his own words, "In addition to the follow up for "Finger Noise", I'm working on a tribute compilation CD for my bass player Denny Reynolds who tragically passed away in 1998, producing a new CD for the Pacific Northwest band "Men Without Pants" and building my BIMA record label."
