David Smith is a vital and adroit axe wielder currently based in Sydney, New South Wales (Australia) who represents his playing style as acoustic pop instrumental, as a music fan can now experience on his most recent recording, "King Of The World". His workhorse guitars include a Levinson Blade R1 Strat (electric) and a Maton (Australian brand) electric acoustic. Smith has been playing guitar since 1997, and putting it simply, divulges his career objective, "Doing exactly what I'm doing now - making my music and selling it to a small, but appreciative, audience."
When asked to finally make public his favorite or most used effect for the guitar, Smith unflinchingly stated, "Reverb," and continued by outlining his musicial goals, "I'm not a musical mystic - there are no particular things or emotions that I'm trying to 'express' with my music. People find what they will in it." He maintains a desire to, at some point, study recording engineering, and is at the moment listening to Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Elvis Costello and other prolific but original artists. His principal gratification? "Knowing that I've come up with a really sublime melody in a song - one that will make people stop for a second and listen a little harder," he explains absolutely.
Smith wraps up by noting long-term and forthcoming endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "Hoping to put together a PC digital recording workstation in the next two years (expensive!) to free me from the constraints I currently work under, then further explore musical boundaries and the places I can find to market my music, given that immediate pop-stardom looks unlikely at this juncture. I spend a lot of time strumming my acoustic in open tunings at the moment, exploring possibilities and putting together future pieces in my head."
Smith's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes one recording project (Armistice "King Of The World").
