David Kilminster is a seasoned and consummate axe wielder currently based in London (England) who represents his playing style as acoustic rock, as a music fan can now experience on his most recent recording, "Playing With Fire". His most utilized guitars consist of a Stock Pink paisley Telecaster and a John Wetton Yairi acoustic. Kilminster has been playing guitar since 1976, and straight from the shoulder discloses his career objective, "My editor asked me recently 'where have all the heroes gone?'. My goal is to get a fantastic band together and make great playing and great songs hip again."
When asked to finally make public his favorite or most used effect for the guitar, Kilminster unflinchingly stated, "Boss Octave Pedal," and continued by outlining his musicial goals, "I have always thought that the song comes first so that's my priority. I don't have any heavy political messages, that doesn't interest me, only the music. There's an energy that comes from playing. I want people to feel my music, to share a moment in time that is very precious. Especially when playing live." He eagerly hopes to, at some point, study studio engineering ("It would be very useful so that I could record at home"), and is presently listening to Michael Hedges, Robben Ford, Bjork, Sonny Landreth and quite a lot of classical music ("things like Barbers Adagio for strings"). His principal gratification? "I don't know if this qualifies because I didn't feel any satisfaction from it... I had an e-mail from a girl in Japan recently. She told me that her father had just died and the only thing that was keeping her going was listening to "Playing with Fire". I can't begin to say how it made me feel but maybe, just maybe I might be doing something worthwhile," he explains absolutely.
Kilminster wraps up by mentioning current and approaching endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "I'm hoping to record a solo CD in December. It's gonna be full of songs which I'm going to try and sing myself if I can get away with it. I've asked Guthrie Govan to play some bits and I'm really looking forward to it!"
