Dan McAvinchey is an accomplished, dynamic guitarist from Raleigh, North Carolina (U.S.A.) who describes his style as instrumental hard rock, as demonstrated on his latest release, "Handz Of Danz". His guitars of choice consist of a Carvin DS400 and an Ovation Acoustic. McAvinchey has played guitar since 1978, and clearly states his career goal, "Through the Guitar Nine Records site, to ensure that every fan of instrumental guitar music all over the world has access to the thousands of great instrumental records out there today. Also, to release 20 instrumental CDs of my music in the next 15 years."
When asked about his favorite effect for the guitar, McAvinchey replied, "Digital delay," and mentioned his musicial goals, "Expressiveness; each piece should stand alone and say something unique, whether it's aggression, beauty, passion, sadness, truth, attitude, or whatever." He would love to someday study recording engineering, and is currently listening to independent artists, Joe Satriani, Marty Friedman, Michael Schenker and blues. His greatest satisfaction? "Completing the recording of a new song," he states unequivocally.
McAvinchey lists ongoing and upcoming projects thusly, "New instrumental CD for 2004; managing the Guitar Nine Records label and web site; tracking down as many instrumental guitarists to include on the site as possible (any less than 2000 is a failure)."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Dan McAvinchey to guitarists such as Ronnie Montrose and others.
McAvinchey's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes one solo album ("Guitar Haus") and participation on another recording (Handz Of Danz "Handz Of Danz").
