Dan Begelman is a dynamic and distinctive musician/guitarist currently based in New York, New York (U.S.A.) who denotes his playing style as progressive rock, as one might want to hear on his most recent recording, "Paradigm Shift". His workhorse guitars include a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Stratocaster. Begelman has been playing guitar since 1965, and unreservedly relates his career objective, "For the next 5-10 years: continue making CDs with my band and performing. Trying to build a following in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) and performing at colleges and clubs. Hope to do scoring work for film (I recently signed a licensing deal with a major company in that area and hope soon to have my music out there in film, TV and radio)."
When asked to disclose his definitive or preferred effect for the guitar, Begelman purposefully responded with, "Overdrive pedal," and outlined his musicial goals, "As to the goal of my composing, I'm trying to write music that is deep, interesting, encompassing a variety of emotions and that will stand on the merit of the composition, not the shred characteristics of the solos. I think the most flattering thing would be for someone to cover one of my tunes!" He keeps open the possibility to, at some point, study the violin or cello, and is at the moment listening to blues, jazz, old R&B stuff, and talk radio. His most important gratification? "As to what moves me the most (or the most fun with my clothes on) is playing with my band and being in that place when you're very loose and connected to the music and feel like you can do no wrong. My other favorite thing is doing stuff with my 4-year-old son Aaron," he muses confidently.
Begelman winds up by mentioning long-term and forthcoming endeavors insightfully, by saying, "An average day is transcribing music for about 6 hours, practicing about 1-2 hours, and spending time with things relating to my band like booking rehearsals, gigs, computer time, and spending time with my family. What's next in my head is writing more material for another CD, and trying to get help financing it. I paid for the first two myself, and it wasn't cheap!"
Begelman's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes one recording project (Handz Of Danz "Handz Of Danz").
