Chris Steberl is a sparkling, vital guitarist from Columbus, Ohio (U.S.A.) who describes his style as very songwriting oriented instrumental melodic rock, as documented on his latest release, "Reasons For A Decade". His guitar of choice is a Brian Moore C90P. Steberl has played guitar since 1972, and openly affirms his career goal, "To become a well rounded, versatile musician. I want to be able to play anything and everything. Style should not be a barrier for any guitarist."
When requested to name his preferred effect for the guitar, Steberl responded with, "A nice subtle delayed/chorus patch," and submitted his musicial goals, "To keep releasing instrumental music that appeals to everyone, not just guitarists. I want people to appreciate the song, the feel, the groove -- not just the 'that one ripping part'!" He would like to someday study more of the production and engineering aspect as well the "music business" in general ("It's hard to be successful in a market that you can't fully understand that is also constantly changing"), and is currently listening to old Shrapnel artists, Joe Jackson with Steve Vai, Mike Stern and Steely Dan. His greatest satisfaction? "Sitting back, listening to a finished composition of my own and reflecting on the time and effort it took to create it. A feeling of accomplishment," he states indisputably.
Steberl notes ongoing and upcoming projects thusly, "Currently finishing mixing new CD "Reasons for a Decade" with Magnitude 9 drummer John Homan. We did some heavy versions of some Mussorsgky, Mozart & Vivaldi pieces along with a few different styles of my own original material. I hope to do a vocal project before the year is out."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Chris Steberl to guitarists such as Jason Becker, Yngwie Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore and others.
Steberl's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several recording projects (Music Of Hendrix "The Spirit Lives On Vol. 2", Project Alcazar "Reasons For A Decade", Uli Jon Roth Tribute "Beyond Inspiration").
