Charlie Read is a nimble-fingered and consummate axe wielder currently based in Parkersburg, West Virginia (U.S.A.) who represents his playing style as instrumental rock flavored with fngerstyle and blues, as a listener can readily appreciate on his most recent recording, "Read Between The Lines". His most utilized guitars consist of an American Deluxe Strat and a Les Paul Special. Read has been playing guitar since 1967, and straight from the shoulder discloses his career objective, "To continue teaching and to make a few more CDs of original music."
When prompted to divulge his ultimate effect for the guitar, Read unflinchingly stated, "Distortion," and continued by citing his musicial goals, "To make guitar music that is technically good but melodic enough to touch the spirit." He eagerly hopes to, at some point, study privately with Paul Gilbert or John Petrucci, and is presently listening to anything by the Beatles, Joe Satriani, Phil Keaggy, Jethro Tull, Dream Theater. His principal gratification? "Writing and recording songs that are not only pleasing to me, but also enjoyed by my listeners," he explains without a doubt.
Read wraps up by mentioning current and approaching endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "I'm working to promote the current CD and get my name out there, while teaching 60+ students, and writing for my next project"
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Charlie Read to guitarists such as Joe Satriani, Phil Keaggy and others.
