Barry Brooksby is an enthusiastic, potent guitar player from Cedar City, Utah (U.S.A.) who expresses his style as progressive, melodic instrumental guitar, as can be heard on his latest release, "The Experience". His guitars of choice include a Hamer Chaparral and a Taylor Acoustic. Brooksby has played guitar since 1983, and frankly confirms his career goal, "More albums, each distinct from the others. Continue with concerts, clinics and workshops. Pursue more studio projects, books, and improvisational CDs. Work with other musicians on compilation albums. Build the guitar program at SUU. Own a music store."
When requested to name his ideal effect for the guitar, Brooksby responded with, "Reverb," and submitted his musicial goals, "I'm hoping for a true listening ear. I personally enjoy delving into someone else's music and trying to experience what they have in writing it. So much can be said in a harmony, a phrase, a tone. I want people to walk away from hearing "The Experience" and feel like they've just had one! I want feelings to be felt that can't be described with words." He would like to someday study guitar with Steve Vai, and is currently listening to anything progressive. Queensryche, Damn the Machine, Steve Vai, Shadow Gallery, Dream Theater, and old '80s. His utmost satisfaction? "When someone tells me about positive feelings they've had from a particular tune off the CD. Or, when I create something musical that has never been created before," he answers indisputably.
Brooksby mentions ongoing and upcoming projects in his own words, "Teaching 20 to 25 private students a week, constantly writing and recording for myself or for others in my home recording studio, Studio7. I have two instruction books (with CDs included), published by Mel Bay Publishing, coming out in 2000. I'm currently working on another full length instrumental CD with Tom Chandler, a guitar friend of mine from the band Joker. This duo CD should be released by mid 2000. And am currently Director of Guitar at Southern Utah University. "
