Al Garcia is a potent, vibrant guitarist from Burbank, California (U.S.A.) who describes his style as progressive jazz/rock fusion, as demonstrated on his latest release, "Alternate Realities". photoHis guitars of choice include a Music Man Axis Sport and a Ken Smith BSR 5MW fretted 5-string bass. Garcia has played guitar since 1971, and openly states his career goal, "In the next five to ten years I will be recording many more CDs and developing my compositional skills."

When prompted to reveal his favorite effect for the guitar, Garcia replied, "Smooth violin-like distortion," and offered his musicial goals, "I want to create movies for people's ears: music that will take you places." He would love to someday study traditional, modern and new composition techniques, and is currently listening to Allan Holdsworth, Pianist Bill Evans, J.S. Bach and John Coltrane. His greatest satisfaction? "I feel very satisfied when non-musicians enjoy my music. This means that I was able to somehow rise above pure technique and communicate on a higher emotional level," he states unambiguously.

Garcia lists ongoing and upcoming projects thusly, "I am working on a new progressive rock CD with vocals. My jazz/rock fusion group, Continuum, will be recording a CD this year as well."

Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Al Garcia to guitarists such as Allan Holdsworth and others.
