Al Garcia is a dynamic and talented axe wielder currently based in Burbank, California (U.S.A.) who represents his playing style as progressive jazz/rock fusion, as a listener can readily appreciate on his most recent recording, "Alternate Realities". His most utilized guitars include a Music Man Axis Sport and a Ken Smith BSR 5MW fretted 5-string bass. Garcia has been playing guitar since 1971, and straight from the shoulder discloses his career objective, "In the next five to ten years I will be recording many more CDs and developing my compositional skills."
When prompted to divulge his ultimate effect for the guitar, Garcia unflinchingly stated, "Smooth violin-like distortion," and continued by citing his musicial goals, "I want to create movies for people's ears: music that will take you places." He eagerly hopes to, at some point, study traditional, modern and new composition techniques, and is presently listening to Allan Holdsworth, Pianist Bill Evans, J.S. Bach and John Coltrane. His principal gratification? "I feel very satisfied when non-musicians enjoy my music. This means that I was able to somehow rise above pure technique and communicate on a higher emotional level," he explains without a doubt.
Garcia wraps up by mentioning current and approaching endeavors enthusiastically, by saying, "I am working on a new progressive rock CD with vocals. My jazz/rock fusion group, Continuum, will be recording a CD this year as well."
Guitar Nine Records visitors have compared the playing style and/or musical approach of Al Garcia to guitarists such as Allan Holdsworth and others.
Garcia's discography (available here at Guitar Nine Records) includes several solo albums ("Make It So", "Alternate Realities") and participation on another recording (Quarteto Nuevo "El Musico").
