Guitarist Dennis Burns' debut CD A Rose On The Lake is an elegant blend of classical guitar, jazz improvisation and world music. The CD features Burns' original compositions as well as arrangements of music by Art Lande, Bill Douglas and Paul McCandless. Brazilian, Celtic and African elements are mixed and matched seamlessly throughout this recording. The CD opens with the charming "Choro 2" by Armando Neves, a local folk hero in Brazil who is a hardly known here in the United States. This is followed by a Celtic-African romp in Bill Douglas' "Feast". "Song For Kimberlee" is a delicate love song which would be right at home in any intimate foreign film. Paul McCandless who composed "Spanish Stairs" has played wind instruments for Oregon and the Paul Winter Consort called Burns' rendition a "beautiful arrangement" of his graceful tune. The title track is a spacious ballad with rich warm tones that make the guitar sing like the human voice. A Rose On The Lake is sure to appeal to a wide audience of acoustic guitar fans. Instrumental Guitar (Acoustic/World/Classical), total running time, 43:31 - Dennis Burns @ iTunes!
