letter f you're in for a good portion of Yngwie Malmsteen interspersed with touches of John Petrucci, then stand still at the Anand Mahangoe junction for a delight of all instrumental guitar fusion!

On his "A Man's Mind" debut, Anand offers ten beautifully skilled instrumentals which not only illustrate his craftmanship but also the many talents of his band. Especially drummer Csaba Tobola is a great asset adding the necessary power and drive. In "Mysterious Ways" one can hear the direction of Rhapsody adding touches of classical inspiration. "Attack Of The Horrible Space Babes" sort of mingles Michael Schenker with Robin Trower. "Far Away" sees Anand approaching the song format the way Gary Moore does in order to create a powerful ballad with some strong solos throughout. In fact, all of A Man's Mind is divided between pure fusion, giving Anand all the scope to show his technical skills, and real songs showing his talent to write the song format. Dancing to "Side By Side" certainly becomes a possibility. To me "Midnight Chaser" is like Anand's very own "Into The Arena," full of surprises and changes and a great melody to top it all. The album closes with "Boys With Toys" : an example of how guitar pyrotechnics really should sound.

All in all Anand Mahangoe has entered the prog and fusion world with a lot of guts delevering a very professional and great sounding album. In future I would like to see more interactions between guitar and keyboards because Mahangoe certainly could become fierce competition for Tony Macalpine and Planet X if he puts his mind to it!
