The original works on Canadian fingerstylist Lyall Steel's CD Alchemy range from the classical courante style of "Falo" and the folky styling of "Slocan" to the musings of "The Alchemist's Dream". A more modern flavor permeates his homages to Argentinean tango master, Astor Piazzolla (highlighting chromaticism, dissonance, rhythmic and tempo variations, and intensity), and the American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright ("House Of Fire" retells the haunting story of an intentional fire and murder by a deranged man). "El Perico" is a rhythmic 'dance' inspired by a couple of jumpy parrots in Mexico, while "The Man In The Moon" offers a simple lullaby. Acoustic Music Resources could only say this about Steel's work, "Unquestionable brilliance, complex yet accessible compositions... highly recommended". Instrumental Guitar (Acoustic/Fingerstyle), total running time, 44:11
