John Westmoreland is a solo acoustic guitarist who uses electronic enhancements and harmonic overtones to add depth and emotion to his recordings. Against The Grain showcases the unconventional style and broad influences of this unique artist. Twelve original compositions make up this recording, two of which are dedicated to the artists named (John Fahey and Guthrie Thomas), whom John considers to be among his greatest influences, and whose styles can be heard in them. Largely self-taught, John grew up absorbing the works of guitarists Leo Kottke, John Fahey and Earl Klugh,and, singer/songwriters Guthrie Thomas and Nick Drake.
