Review of "Adventures Of The Imagination"

y one complaint about the previous MS release (not enough solos) was quickly rectified when I opened this package and discovered Michael's first ever all instrumental CD. Just to set the record straight, Schenker has been doing instrumental tunes way before Satch and Vai, before anyone ever heard of Malmsteen or Vinnie Moore and before most guitarists even had enough chops to attempt them. In any good instrumental song, the key to connecting with the listener is melody, and Schenker is the master of melody. Guitar lines throughout the CD lead you places, remind you of feelings you've experienced and take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotion. There's not a whole lot of flashy stuff here- no whammy bar, no pickhand tapping, no typical speed/shred runs- and as a result, there is not a wasted note on the whole CD. Michael will get a groove pumping and every note he plays over it says something special in his own majestic style. Whether he's digging in hard or angelically woo-ing smooth notes from his trademark flying -V, it's all heartfelt and therefore very real. Michael promises this to be the first in a long line of instrumental releases. I certainly look forward to it. I think someone once said, "shut up and play yer' guitar." The man is doing what he does best.
10 out of 10!
